Norra Dalen Nordic Sauna

About

The Name

What does the name mean? Norra Dalen is North Valley in Swedish. This is our way of honoring both our Swedish ancestry and the part of the Gunnison Valley that we call home. Nordic Sauna means that our sauna simply uses fire, stones, water, and air to create heat and steam. We deliver an authentic wood fired sauna experience virtually anywhere our mobile sauna can go.

Experience the health and wellness benefits of sauna at your home.

The natural light offered by the sauna’s windows and views of the mountains add to your sauna experience.

Is it hot? Yes! Embrace that authentic heat and let it pull away life’s stressors.

For convenience, we deliver right to your home and pick up when your done.

Between sauna rounds, cool down with a dip in our cold plunge tub or take a roll in the snow. Pure euphoria.

The Sauna and Stove

Our Sauna trailer is built by Voyageur Saunas in Shakopee, MN. Owner Eric Bongard originally made these for ice fishing shelters, before coming to his senses and deciding to line the trailers with cedar and putting in a sauna stove.

Handbuilt from the frame up, these trailers feature aluminum frames, walls, and exterior sheathing. The walls and ceiling are fully insulated then lined with T&G cedar. The benches are constructed of clear cedar 2x4s. Finally the trailer itself has wheels than can be raised so that the trailer sits flat on the ground for ease of access and added stability. https://www.voyageursaunas.com/

Our sauna stove is a Kuuma, built by Lamppa Manufacturing in Tower, MN. Lamppa Mfg are fourth generation stovemakers and the Kuuma Sauna Stove is, as far as they know, the only UL listed sauna stove made in the United State. When you call Lamppa Manufacturing,, the Owner, Daryl Lamppa, will answer the phone and have a great conversation with you. https://www.lamppakuuma.com/sauna-stoves/

The Owner

In an attempt to avoid maturity for as long as possible, Jarrod spent 26 years in the US Navy as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician. He thought that getting to play with explosives, dive, and jump out of planes seemed like a pretty rad job, and he was right.

After retiring from the Navy with all of his fingers and without any extra holes in his body, Jarrod quickly realized that the most important thing in life was his family and he and his wife needed to find that special place to raise their two daughters. Jarrod first visited the Gunnison Valley during a bicycle trip across Colorado while in High School. He stayed in a cabin in Almont and he decided then and there that he would one day live in a small mountain town. In particular, that small mountain town at the end of the road, so they made the move to Crested Butte.
Like everyone else who lives in Crested Butte, he loves spending his time with his family in the mountains, running, biking, and skiing.
Jarrod is also an active member of The Crested Butte Mountain Rescue Team.

Why Sauna?
Why NOT sauna? Jarrod did not grow up taking sauna, but during his world travels he always enjoyed the occasional real sauna, applying water to hot rocks. Those experiences became more and more difficult to find, with many gym and hotel saunas having low temperatures or prohibiting the pouring of water on their stones. Jarrod rediscovered sauna while searching for ways to get better sleep. It was during his research on building a backyard sauna that he decided to continue to avoid maturity and to start his own sauna business to share the authentic sauna experience and to build a sauna culture in Crested Butte, The Gunnison Valley, and Beyond.
